Navigation Functions
- How does the navigation system work?
The Acura Navigation System receives signals from Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites and sophisticated vehicle sensors. A powerful computer then analyzes this data to precisely pinpoint the vehicle's location. In addition, the navigation system's Hard Disc Drive (HDD) contains an immense database of maps, plus millions of points of special interest (POI). - Where can I get additional information about the Real Time Traffic feature?
More information on the Real Time Traffic feature can be found at http://www.Acura.com/realtimetraffic. The site includes a current list of the cities with traffic coverage, the roads in each city that have traffic information, and a tutorial that explains the operation of the system. - Is the navigation system available in any other language?
Yes, the Hard Disc Drive (HDD) navigation system has language settings for English, Spanish, and Canadian French. You can find the settings menu under the "Set up" menu. - Occasionally, I see white dots on the screen. Is something wrong with my navigation system?
No. Your system is operating properly. The white dots you see are off-road tracking dots that illustrate your path when driving off of a mapped road. Also known as the "breadcrumbs", these dots allow you to later retrace the route back to a mapped road. They can be turned on or off at the "Info" screen. "Off road Tracking" is found by pressing the INFO/PHONE button, selecting "Set up" under the "Main Info" tab, then "Vehicle" under the "Other" tab. - How do I hide or display map icons?
The system allows you to hide or display most icons, including ATMs, gas stations and restaurants. To do this, press the ENTER button when the map screen is shown, and select "Map Information", then "Show icon on Map". Now you can choose the icons you wish to display or hide.
If using voice commands, say "hide gas station" or "display gas station" to hide or display the icons you want to see on the screen.
Note: Some icons cannot be hidden. These include Honda and Acura dealers. For complete details on icons, refer to the navigation system owner's manual. - What is meant by verified and unverified roads?
Verified roads have been thoroughly researched and accurately mapped. Shown as dark gray or red color on the display, they include roads in all major metropolitan areas and the main roads connecting them to smaller cities. Verified information for metro-area streets includes posted speed limits, one-way streets, addresses, etc.
Unverified roads have been less accurately mapped. Shown as purple on the display, they include most of the smaller cities and rural areas of the continental U.S. Navigation information on these roads may be less detailed. For example, the street information may lack posted speed limits, whether a street is one-way or not, some address information, etc. - When using my navigation system, why aren't all roads named?
In verified metropolitan areas (dark gray or red colored streets), most roads are named. Occasional errors may result from name changes, street closures or the addition of new roads that have not yet been included in the database.
Unverified roads are shown as purple on the display. These roads have not been verified by the database vendor. They are shown on the map for reference and can have errors in naming, map location, and address range. - Can my navigation system provide routing information for addresses or places in unverified areas?
Yes. The driver can choose between a blue-dotted "vector line" that points toward the address or destination, or full navigation routing that includes cautions. The choice can be made in the "Info" screen. "Unverified Area Routing" is found by pressing the INFO/PHONE button, selecting "Set up" under the "Main Info" tab, and then selecting "Routing & Guidance" under the "Other" tab. - What is the fastest, easiest way to find an address?
When using voice commands to locate an address, first say the city name, then the street. When manually entering an address, enter the street name and number first. The system will then list the applicable cities for you to choose from.
The menu option "Map Input" can also be used to find a city, by jogging the Interface Dial to input and select the city name. Remember that some cities may not be included within a larger metropolitan area. - How do I delete addresses?
If you wish to delete the entire Address book, Previous Destinations or Home Address, go to the "Info" screen by pressing INFO/PHONE and select "Set up" under the "Main Info" tab, then select "Clear Personal Data" under the "Other" tab.
If you wish to delete one item in the Address Book or Previous Destinations, go to the "Menu" screen and select "Set up" under the "Main set up" tab, then choose "Personal Information". Next select either Address Book or Previous Destinations and select an address item that you wish to delete. During these operations, a personal PIN may be required to delete the item.
The system can hold up to 50 previous destinations and will automatically delete the oldest entry as each new destination is entered. For more information on this and other address features, see your navigation system owner's manual, or consult your Acura dealership. - What functions can the Voice-Activated Command System control?
Most navigation, audio and climate control system functions can be controlled using voice commands. The voice control system is activated using the "Talk" button. Once the system's microphone picks up your command, the display automatically changes in response to the command, and then prompts you for the next command.
As the system offers a multitude of voice-activated functions, please refer to your navigation system owner's manual for complete details and for a glossary of all voice commands. - My navigation system talks to me. Does this mean I have a Voice-Activated Navigation System?
Voice-Activated Navigation Systems have navigation "talk" and "back" buttons located at the steering wheel. - Sometimes the system does not properly recognize a spoken command. What can I do to improve the system's performance?
Make sure the correct screen is displayed for the voice command you are using. To see the valid commands for any screen, use the voice control system and say "HELP". Or you can find the voice command list at the "Info" screen. Choose "Voice Info" under the "Main Info" tab. For complete details, refer to the Voice Command Index in your navigation system owner's manual.
Suggestions to improve recognition: · Close the windows and the moon roof.
· Set the fan speed to "low" (1 or 2).
· Adjust the airflow from the dashboard center and side vents so they do not blow against the microphone on the ceiling.
· After pressing and releasing the navigation "Talk" button wait for the beep, then give a voice command.
· Enunciate clearly. Give the command in a natural speaking voice without pausing between words.
· If the system still does not recognize your command, speak louder to compensate for the presence of road noise.
- I forgot my PIN or have a previously owned vehicle with an existing PIN. How can I retrieve an old PIN or enter a new one?
An old PIN cannot be retrieved. If you forget your PIN, have a vehicle with a previous PIN, or wish to enter a new PIN, your Acura dealership can reset the system for you.
Note: A PIN is optional. If you decide to use one, it's advisable that you record it somewhere. - If I have a problem with my navigation system, where should I have it repaired? br> All repairs should be performed by an authorized Honda or Acura dealership.
- Is my navigation screen able to show my personal pictures that I took with my digital camera like my PC?
The system has a "Wall Paper" feature that allows you to download a digital photo to be displayed on the navigation screen.
Navigation Map
- Can I use a different mapping database in my navigation system?
No. The system is not designed for other navigation programs or databases from personal navigation systems or navigations of other makes. - If I find an error in the database, how do I report it?
If the error pertains to a highway or "verified" main road (shown as dark gray or red colored streets on the display), report it online at: mapreporter.navteq.com.
If the error involves a purple "unverified" road, do not report it. These areas are provided for reference only.
For errors in points of interest, keep in mind that the database may be out of date, depending on when the data was collected and when your map data DVD was purchased. - Where is the navigation map installed in my system?
The navigation map is stored on the hard disc drive in your navigation core unit. You can directly overwrite the new navigation map by inserting the update map DVD into the audio disc slot.
Navigation Map Coverage
- Can my navigation system provide coverage for Alaska or Hawaii?
- Can my navigation system provide coverage for Mexico or Canada?
The Hard Disc Drive (HDD) navigation system provides map of Canada, but not Mexico. Note: When traveling in Canada, the driver should select kilometers for units. This will allow map units and voice guidance to agree with the posted signage. - Why isn't my address included in the navigation system database?
While every effort was made to provide a complete address database, not every address was available at the time of data authoring. An address located within a "verified" metropolitan area (dark gray or red colored streets) may have been omitted because the area is located in a new subdivision, or there was a road-name change. Roads, street names and addresses located in an "unverified" area (purple colored streets) have not been verified by the database vendor and do not include information on one-way streets, turn restrictions, or the road's average speed. Unverified streets are shown on the map for reference and can have errors in map location, naming, and address range.
Coverage for Hawaii and Alaska is available.
Navigation Map Update
- When will the next map update be available?
- How often do I need to purchase an updated navigation-system map disc?
Purchase of an update map is optional and not required for continued operation of your navigation system. However, update maps offer a wealth of features and new information you may find helpful.
The road network and the Points of Interest (POI) are constantly changing which is why maps are updated, approximately once a year. With a new map release you can be confident that you have the latest information available for your Navigation System, providing you with a better travel experience whether on business or leisure. - How can I tell which navigation map version I am currently using?
To find the map version information, press the INFO/PHONE button to go to the "Info" screen, and choose "System/Device Information" under the "Other" tab. - Will an update map be compatible with my vehicle?
The update map varies depending on the system of your vehicle. Please provide the necessary vehicle and system information when you purchase a map update. - If I install an update map, will I lose any of my personal information?
No, your personal information and your address book will be retained. - Is the update map available at my dealership or purchased elsewhere?
Dealerships do not stock these items but may order the disc as a courtesy for you. Replacement and update maps may be ordered online at: www.acuranavi.com
An update disc may also be ordered by calling the Acura DVD Fulfillment Center at 1-888-628-6270. Please note the operators cannot answer detailed technical or coverage questions.
For help with technical or coverage issues, consult Acura Client services at: 1-800-382-2238. - What is the return policy for update or replacement maps?
You may return the unopened item within 30 days of delivery. Proof of purchase is required. A copy of the packing list that comes with your disc can be used for this purpose. Returns or exchanges must include your complete contact information, a return address and daytime phone number, along with billing information from the original purchase. Returned items are refunded at the original purchase price, plus applicable sales tax, in the original method of payment.
Update maps are usually released in the fall of each year.

NAVIGATION SYSTEM DVD RECORD OF UPDATES
Below is a record of annual updates applicable to your navigation system DVD for your selected vehicle.
Tip
How to determine your DVD version, and determine if you need a new version:
The version number is near the bottom of the DVD label. For a particular version number (like 3.30d), the map coverage typically remains the same during the entire model year. However, in some cases there may be minor software updates - in this case, the letter designation (like the "d" in 3.30d) will change. In this case, there are usually no changes to the map data on this DVD.
