FAQ´s related to the Kia Full Map Navigation device

15. Why can’t my system identify the current car position?
To initialize the GPS/DR system (for the first time or after re-installation), the GPS connector and speed signal should be connected correctly. Drive the car for approx. 30 minutes to stabilize the current car position. If the car is parked in an underground garage where the entrance has steep ascent or steep descent, the system may require a few minutes to identify the current position.

16. Am I able to buy a North American map for my European car?
Unfortunately, you are unable to purchase map products for this region.

17. Why can I not hear the voice guidance?
Please confirm that the volume is not set to “Mute”.

18. Why doesn’t my system speak the name of the road where I have to turn?
You will receive voice guidance for road numbers during navigation routing, however, voice guidance for road names is not featured.

19. Why is there is a difference between the driving road and the road displayed on the map?
Even though GPS is very accurate, there often is a small tolerance margin. When the GPS receiver is installed, there can be a margin of approximately 10metres. When driving on a newly built road however, discrepancies may exist if the installed map version is not the most current.

20. Why can I not see the map on my navigation system?
If you cannot see the map even after executing the navigation, the data within the memory is damaged.  First try to re-set the device back to the original factory setting.  If the issue persists after implementing the factory re-set, contact your dealer.

21. Which data is saved into last destination?
When calculating a route, the destination information will be saved in the system memory unless the destination has been set using the “Tour Planner” menu.

22. I input the GPS coordinate value in "GPS input" menu, but the system doesn't calculate the route. What should I do?
It may happen that the position related to the GPS input value is located in a river, ocean, mountain or is not found due to invalid map coverage. Please double check if the GPS coordinates are correct.

23. Why is the "Show Tour" menu inactive?
The "Show Tour" menu is only active when the current route includes tour points, which have been set using the “Tour Planner” menu.  Otherwise the “Show Tour” menu is inactive.

24. How do I set a favorite destination?
While the vehicle is situated at the location that you wish to store, select the storage position (1 to 12) where you would like to store it and hold this button for approx. 1 second.  Using the keyboard, name the favorite.  You may not alter the names of "home" and "work". If the vehicle is not physically at the same location as you wish to store as a favorite, you may enter the location into the address book, then save it as a favorite from there.

25. What is the "Continue/Stop Guidance" feature?
Using this menu, you may cancel the existing route path using the "Stop Guidance" button. Click the "Continue Guidance" button to return to the previous status and calculate the previous route path. This feature becomes inactive once the destination has been reached.

28. Why do some TMC traffic icons on the map screen appear in grey colour, while some have a true colour?
Gray icon events are not present on route. True color icon represents events that are present on route.

29. Why doesn’t the detour function work although there are TMC traffic events on my route?
The following traffic events result in a route detour:  stationary traffic, queuing traffic, traffic due to closed roads (unless the road is closed due to slippery road conditions).  Other events do not result in a route detour.

30. Why am I encountering traffic on the road that has not been indicated by TMC on my map?
Traffic events can be various depending on the radio-station conditions and the country location of the vehicle. Free TMC support for the navigation system exists in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland. Traffic broadcasting is not supported in the following countries:  Portugal, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, etc.  For countries such as the UK and Finland where only commercial-TMC (paid service) is available, the navigation system does not have the function to receive this service.

31. What TMC event will display in “Nearby”?
All TMC events within a radius of 200km from the current position are shown. If the system cannot identify its current position, TMC events will also not be displayed.

The system updates TMC events every 7 seconds and discards events that have been passed along the route.

Some POI´s may be registered in more than one category. For example, “ABC” can be registered as a restaurant or a shopping-center if it is a restaurant located within a shopping centre. By clicking on the POI details, you can see more detail on the type of POI.

35. Why are the search results different between POI search and POI in city when in the same city?
The POI search is based on a search radius of 100km from the current position, whereas the POI in city searches only within a selected city.  The POI search therefore yields more results than the POI in city search.

36. Why is a particular POI is not included in the POI search results?
The POI search is based on the current location of the device. If the system cannot identify the current position, the system cannot search the POI data. Additionally, map data can differ from the real world depending on the version of map update installed in the system.

37. Can I alter the street number of a POI?
No, you cannot modify the street number of a POI.

The system is pre-set to allow names/descriptions up to  a maximum of 20 characters.

40. Why does the screen suddenly change when entering data into the keyboard?
The system begins searching and further narrowing the available results as additional characters are entered via the keyboard into the system.  Once fewer than six search results are available, the screen will default to automatically display this list of six or fewer results.

41. How can I enter the scroll mode?
To enter scroll mode on the map, press the map and hold for three seconds.

42. How can I scroll the map in scroll mode?

43. Why is the compass button (located in the top left corner of the screen) disabled in 3D mode?
In 3D mode the driving direction is always to the top of the screen and the map moves according to this. The map showing to the north is not supported in 3D mode, therefore the “compass” button is disabled and cannot be toggled to display the map facing north.

44. Can I enter the scroll mode when the screen is split?
No, you cannot enter the scroll mode when the screen is split.  Change to full screen mode to use this feature.

48. Why is the “Longer” button sometimes disabled in the detour screen?
When you select a detour road, you can extend the detour by pressing the “longer” button, which is the second button from the left on the screen.  Sometimes however this “longer” button is disabled for one of the following reasons:
1. When the detour road is already set to the maximum detour distance of 100km
2.  While the system is busy calculating the next possible detour point
